Greenoa’s World is an idea I wanted to work out for a long time. It all started in my youth when every Sunday morning I would watch the documentaries of the great Jacques-Yves Coustea and his journey’s around the planet. In this series the fragile nature of earth was addressed more than once. Wanting to protect all living beings I had to become a biologist, however I was not a star in the subject at high school and dropped the dream. With the help of the wrong friends I abandoned my dreams in order to fulfil my new life goal, ‘earn a lot of money, and care for yourself’. With this in mind I joined a debating club, obtained a degree in bookkeeping and finished my high school. At this moment of my life I was starting my bachelor’s degree in engineering and was increasingly becoming unhappy. Luckily my egocentric days were fading behind the horizon as I met a whole bunch of good natured people at university who actually managed to stay true to their selves and thought me how to find myself again.
At the moment I have completed my bachelor’s degree and am at the end of my master’s degree. In my work and research I try to keep sustainability and renewable energy in mind as much as possible, which makes me happy. I am, however, fully aware of the fact that not everybody can contribute to protecting the environment in the same way. Since I did not understand biology I had to divert to engineering, but what if you want to help out with small steps instead of the big work? That is a question I was asked a lot by friends who admired my work, so I started reading up on which small changes you can make in your daily routine in order to make a big contribution. In a perfect world we would all ride bikes and eat vegetarian, but that is not a feasible option for everybody. If we all make a small change however, the results are big. This is what Greenoa’s World is all about, small steps with a big impact.
A big polar bear hug,
Rinoa
